Shimla, a beautiful hill station located in the lower ranges of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh, India, is the most popular tourist destination. It is situated at a height of 2,205 mt above the sea level.

Shimla is believed to have derived its name from "Goddess Shyamla", who is supposed to be an incarnation of Goddess Kali. This beautiful hill station was discovered by the British, and in 1864, Shimla was declared as the summer capital of British India. Because of its scenic beauty, Shimla is a perfect destination for the nature lovers and is also a popular honeymoon spot. During winters, the adventure lovers can enjoy trekking as the beautiful valley gets covered with snow.

Shimla also offers a wide variety of different experiences for the tourists. One can sit on the Ridge for hours looking at the great view of mountains; enjoy chatting and gossiping along with some snacks and yummy ice-creams. You can also enjoy horse riding on the Ridge. Best Time to visit Shimla

The best season to visit Shimla is from April to June; but if you want to see the beautiful snowfall, then you must go to Shimla in between December and February.

How to reach Shimla

The nearest airport is the Jubbarhatti airport, which is at a distance of 23 kms from Shimla. The nearest railway station is at Kalka, which is about 98 kms away from Shimla. Shimla also has its own railway station which is well connected to the Kalka railway station by The Himalayan Railway (Toy Train).
